Subject Roadmap
Class 10 Tamil (Samacheer Kalvi SSLC) is organised across nine iyals (units). Each iyal combines prose lessons (உரைநடை), poetry (செய்யுள்), a supplementary/சிறப்புப் பாடம், grammar (இலக்கணம்), and a writing task. Steady lesson-by-lesson preparation plus grammar drilling is the winning strategy.

What to Cover
- Prose (உரைநடை): theme, author, key points, important questions
- Poetry (செய்யுள்): meaning, கவிநயம், memorised lines
- Supplementary reader: story, characters, message
- Grammar (இலக்கணம்): அணி, சிலேடை, வினா-விடை-பொருள்கோள், சொல் வளம், அணிநலன்கள்
- Writing (எழுத்துப் பயிற்சி): letter, essay, summary, paragraph, dialogue, advertisement
Study Method
1. Read each lesson fully; note author, theme, and key lines. 2. Build a vocabulary list (முக்கியச் சொற்கள்) per lesson. 3. Memorise all Thirukkural couplets and prescribed poem lines. 4. Drill ilakkanam daily — grammar is high-scoring and rule-based. 5. Write one writing-format answer every two days. 6. Attempt full model papers under the time limit.
Exam Tips
- Thirukkural and memorised lines are free marks — write them perfectly.
- Grammar (ilakkanam) is the most scoring section; master every type.
- Use the correct format for every writing task.
- Structure long answers with clear headings/points.
- Keep handwriting legible; leave time to check spelling and question numbers.
