TNEA 2026

No entrance exam — admission based entirely on Class 12 marks. Use the free tools below to check your cutoff and find your college.

TNEA Cutoff Formula

Cutoff = Maths÷2 + Physics÷4 + Chemistry÷4

Maximum = 200  ·  Maths carries double the weight

Maths
192 ÷ 2 = 96.00
Physics
188 ÷ 4 = 47.00
Chemistry
195 ÷ 4 = 48.75

Total cutoff = 96.00 + 47.00 + 48.75 = 191.75 / 200

What is TNEA?

TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) is the single-window process run by Anna University for admissions to B.E./B.Tech programmes across Tamil Nadu government, government-aided, and self-financing colleges. Unlike JEE, there is no entrance examination — eligibility is entirely based on Class 12 marks in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry.

Every year, roughly 2 lakh students register for TNEA to compete for seats. Government colleges such as CEG (Guindy), MIT (Chrompet), and GCT (Coimbatore) fill first and carry the highest cutoffs — BC cutoffs for CS at CEG regularly exceed 197/200.

TNEA — Frequently Asked Questions

What is TNEA?▾
TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) is the centralised admission process conducted by Anna University for B.E./B.Tech programmes in Tamil Nadu. There is no entrance exam — admission is based entirely on Class 12 marks in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry.
How is the TNEA cutoff calculated?▾
TNEA cutoff = (Maths ÷ 2) + (Physics ÷ 4) + (Chemistry ÷ 4). Marks are out of 200 each, so the maximum cutoff is 200. Maths carries double the weight of Physics and Chemistry.
What community categories are used in TNEA?▾
TNEA uses seven reservation categories: OC (Open Competition), BC (Backward Class), BCM (Backward Class Muslim), MBC (Most Backward Class), SC (Scheduled Caste), SCA (Scheduled Caste Arunthathiyars), and ST (Scheduled Tribe). Each category has separate college-wise cutoff marks.
Is there a separate entrance exam for TNEA?▾
No. TNEA does not have an entrance exam. Admissions are based entirely on Tamil Nadu State Board Class 12 marks. Students from CBSE or ICSE boards can also apply — their marks are converted to the TN State Board equivalent.
When is TNEA counselling held?▾
TNEA counselling is typically held in July–August after Tamil Nadu State Board Class 12 results in May. Students register at tneaonline.org and are allotted colleges based on their cutoff rank and college preferences.
