VIII. Life Skill
Q. Suggest measures to bring unity in your school.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
1. Confusing "subcontinent" with "continent." A continent is a standalone landmass; India is a subcontinent because it has all features of a continent within a part of Asia.
2. Writing "29 states" without knowing it is now 28. The textbook was written when India had 29 states, but after the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir (2019), India now has 28 states and 8 Union territories.
3. Confusing classical dance forms with folk dances. Classical dances (Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, etc.) follow codified rules; folk dances (Bhangra, Kummi, etc.) are regional and informal. Know which is which.
4. Saying "Confucianism is practised in India." It is not. The correct answer to "which religion is not practised in India" is Confucianism.
5. Writing only "diversity means differences." Always explain with examples — differences in language, religion, food, dress, culture, and customs.
6. Forgetting who coined "Unity in Diversity." It was Jawaharlal Nehru, not Gandhi or Ambedkar.
7. Confusing the number of official languages. The Eighth Schedule recognises 22 languages, not 23, 25, or 26.
