Class 9 Maths — Term 2 Unit Test
Time: 2.5 Hours | Marks: 60
Section A — 1 Mark (1 × 10 = 10)
1. Plot the point (−3, 4). Which quadrant is it in? 2. What is the distance between (0,0) and (3,4)? 3. Define vertically opposite angles. 4. If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, what can you say about corresponding angles? 5. What are the conditions for two triangles to be congruent by SAS? 6. State the exterior angle property of a triangle. 7. What is the area of a triangle with base 8 cm and height 5 cm? 8. What is the total surface area of a cube with side 4 cm? 9. Find the volume of a cylinder with r = 3 cm, h = 7 cm. (Use π = 22/7) 10. State the Pythagorean theorem.
Section B — 3 Mark (3 × 6 = 18)
(Choose 6 of 7)
1. Find the distance between the points (2, 3) and (−1, 7). 2. Find the midpoint of the line segment joining (4, −2) and (−4, 6). 3. Prove that the sum of angles in a triangle is 180°. 4. In triangle ABC, angle A = 50°, angle B = 70°. Find angle C. Then find the exterior angle at C. 5. Two triangles are congruent by ASA. State the full condition and explain it. 6. Find the area of a trapezium with parallel sides 12 cm and 8 cm, height 5 cm. 7. A cylinder has radius 7 cm and height 10 cm. Find its curved surface area and volume.
Section C — 5 Mark (5 × 4 = 20)
(Choose 4 of 5)
1. Prove that the angles in a triangle sum to 180° using parallel lines and a transversal. 2. In triangle ABC, AB = AC (isosceles). Prove that angle B = angle C. 3. Find the perimeter and area of a triangle with vertices at A(0,0), B(4,0), C(0,3). 4. A metallic solid sphere of radius 6 cm is melted and recast into a cone with base radius 6 cm. Find the height of the cone. 5. Prove Pythagoras' theorem: In a right triangle, the square on the hypotenuse = sum of squares on the other two sides.
Section D — Application Problems (12 marks)
D1. Coordinate Geometry (4 marks): Three vertices of a parallelogram are A(1,2), B(4,6), C(7,2). Find the fourth vertex D if ABCD is a parallelogram. [Use midpoint property of diagonals: midpoint of AC = midpoint of BD]
D2. Geometry — Angles (4 marks): Two parallel lines are cut by a transversal. If one angle is 65°, find all 8 angles formed, giving reasons.
D3. Mensuration (4 marks): A room is 5 m long, 4 m wide, and 3 m high. (a) Find the total surface area of the four walls. (b) Find the cost of painting the walls at ₹15 per m².
